About this site

The name comes from a day at the races at Wingatui, many years ago. I gave my daughter some money to bet on whichever horse she liked. She chose one called Random Thoughts — and when I asked her why, she said, simply, "Because I have those." It won. The name stuck.

This is a personal blog. There's no particular theme, no posting schedule, and no comments section. Just writing and the occasional photograph, published when something seems worth putting into words. I know probably the last thing the world needs now is yet-another-blog. Probably, yet here we are.

I'm based in Aotearoa. I'm interested in a lot of things — which is, I suppose, the point of a blog called Random Thoughts.

Why Waitzen?

Why does the website address begin with that word. Well, Waitzen is the old German name for Vác, a small town on the banks of the Danube in Hungary. It has a special place in my heart and, randomly, its old German name just appeals.
